                                 Wood carvings

Hand carved in North Carolina using native  hardwoods.

Wood carving is one of the oldest arts. A bit different as this art form requires one to create through subtraction. That is one must take away from the wood to let the image out. Most artforms require one to add media to create a work. It has been an experience as we continue to learn to work with the wood to release the sculpture within, One must work with the wood, as it will dictate "how" the wood is carved. We have used Basswood, Tupelo, Tulip, White pine, and Butternut so far. We do not practice "power carving." All work is done by hand. We start with  a blank block of wood, pick up a knife, and get after it!
